The mission of Sweet Dreams Senior Pet Sanctuary (SDSPS) is to support elderly individuals who can no longer care for their senior pets by providing a safe and loving home for their cherished companions. If you are interested in surrendering your senior pet (age 9 or older) because you are elderly and no longer able to properly care for this pet, please complete an owner surrender application on this website. When SDSPS receives the owner surrender application, the pet will be placed on a waiting list. The owner will then be contacted by a member of the SDSPS team for the following: Biographical Information Form - this will include questions about the animal's likes and dislikes and behavior patterns. Since we are a sanctuary for older pets, it is essential that all animals coexist peacefully and can live together harmoniously. Unfortunately, animals with disruptive or temperamental behavior patterns cannot be accepted into our program. Medical History Form - this form must be completed and signed by the veterinarian who has been caring for this animal. All pets must test negative for heartworm. If the pet requires quarantine due to a contagious illness, we ask that you hold the pet until they are cleared by their veterinarian. Once these forms have been received, a meeting with the pet and owner will be scheduled. If the "meet and greet" is successful and we believe the pet can thrive in a sanctuary setting, the animal will be presented to the Board of Directors for approval. Although we love all animals and want to help our elderly population find homes for their senior pets, Sweet Dreams reserves the right to refuse to take an animal into our sanctuary without explanation.
